When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for New Gloucester
For any new structure. No building or structure shall be erected, moved, added to, or structurally altered without a building permit issued by the CEO.
- Exempt Ordinary maintenance not involving structural change
- Exempt Painting and similar finish work
Note: Refer to MUBEC Section 105.2; confirm with CEO.

Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Contact CEO at 207-926-4126 ext. 3 or codeofficer@newgloucester.com to discuss project.
- 02 Download building permit application from newgloucester.com/enforcement.
- 03 Prepare required documents including building permit application, approved ResCheck energy compliance form for the project.
- 04 Ensure property has vehicular and utility access documentation if applicable.
- 05 Submit completed application to CEO.
- 06 CEO reviews for compliance.
- 07 Pay permit fee per CEO/Planning Fee Schedule.
- 08 Permit issued; post at job site.
- 09 Schedule inspections.
- 10 Final inspection and close-out.
