When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Frye Island
For all new construction, structural alterations, additions, demolition. Tree Removal Permit required for any tree removed over 4 inches in diameter. Shoreland zoning applies given island location.

Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Download permit application from fryeislandtown.org/code-enforcement/page/permit-applications.
- 02 Complete application; determine project type (building, shoreland use, plumbing, septic, tree removal, solar, sign, etc.).
- 03 Submit completed application in drop box at 10 Fairway Lane or email to codeenforcement@fryeislandtown.org.
- 04 CEO contacts applicant with fee amount.
- 05 Pay fee by check (payable to "Town of Frye Island"; note purpose in memo), in-person, drop box, or online via credit card/ACH (2.5% processing fee or $2.95 flat rate ACH).
- 06 CEO reviews application; impact fee may apply for new dwelling units (approved February 2024).
- 07 Permit issued; post at job site.
- 08 Schedule inspections.
- 09 Final inspection and close-out.
