When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Whitefield
Per Building Development Ordinance (updated March 18, 2023) and applicable Maine statutes; construction, structural alterations, plumbing, and land use activities in the shoreland zone require permits.

Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Contact CEO Arthur Strout at (207) 458-2154 or (207) 445-3263 to determine permit type required.
- 02 Download forms from townofwhitefield.com/forms-permits/ or request from town office.
- 03 Complete application with required supporting documents.
- 04 Mail or drop off completed application to: Town Office, Attn: Code Enforcement, 36 Townhouse Road, Whitefield, ME 04353.
- 05 Pay applicable permit fee (fee schedule adopted April 9, 2024; available from town office).
- 06 Permit issued; post at job site.
- 07 Schedule required inspections with CEO.
