When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Somerville
Land use permit for construction, structural alterations. Internal plumbing permit for plumbing work. HHE-200 for new or expanded septic systems. Shoreland Zoning permit for work in shoreland zone.

- 02 Download applicable permit form from the department page (HHE-200 Septic Permit, Internal Plumbing Permit, Land Use Permit, Supplemental Shoreland Zoning Permit).
- 03 Complete and submit application.
- 04 CEO reviews and enforces state laws and local ordinances regarding shoreland zoning, land use, plumbing, subsurface wastewater disposal, and building standards.
- 05 Pay applicable permit fee (fee schedule not publicly posted; contact CEO).
- 06 Permit issued; post at job site.
- 07 Schedule inspections as required.
