When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Dresden
Per local land use ordinances; all new construction, additions, structural alterations, and demolition. Business License Permit required for new businesses. Solar installations per Solar Ordinance (Appendix E).

- MUBEC adoption discretionary (very small population). Town enforces its local building ordinance (Section 5 of the land use regulations) and the Shoreland Zoning Ordinance (Appendix C). Contact town office for building standard applied.
- Contractor requirements
- State-licensed electrician for electrical. State-licensed plumber for plumbing. No Maine general contractor license.

Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Contact the town office at 207-737-4335 or townadmin@dresdenme.org to determine which permits are required.
- 02 Download Building Permit Application or Demolition Permit Application from dresdenme.org/forms/.
- 03 Complete application with required supporting documents.
- 04 Submit by mail to PO Box 30, by email to townadmin@dresdenme.org, or in person at 534 Gardiner Road.
- 05 Pay applicable permit fee per the Fee Schedule (Appendix B to local ordinances, available at dresdenme.org/ordinances/).
- 06 Permit issued; post at job site.
- 07 Schedule required inspections with CEO.
