When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Westport Island
Permits required for new home construction, modular homes, new and re-located mobile homes, in-ground pools, communication towers, sheds, garages, decks, and other additions to above-ground structures. Normal maintenance and repair of existing permitted structures does not require a permit.

- State-licensed electrician for electrical. State-licensed plumber for plumbing. No Maine general contractor license.

Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Fill out a Permit Application (available online or in person at the Town Office).
- 02 Contact Gary Richardson (CEO) at (207) 882-6537 or Ron Stoodley (Deputy CEO) at (207) 882-6883 for next steps and to confirm requirements.
- 03 CEO follows up with applicant regarding supporting documentation and site-specific requirements.
- 04 Submit completed application with required documents to Town Office or CEO.
- 05 Pay permit fee per Building Permit Instructions and Fee Schedule.
- 06 Permit issued; post at job site.
- 07 Schedule required inspections.
