When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Jefferson
Per Building Ordinance (amended Nov. 2022/2024); all new construction, additions, and structural alterations require a building permit. Separate plumbing permits for interior and exterior plumbing. Shoreland tree cutting permits required in shoreland zone. Commercial and multi-family projects have a separate application.

- 02 Download applicable application from jeffersonmaine.org/forms-permits/ (Building Permit, Commercial and Multi-Family Building Permit, Driveway/Road Entrance, Interior Plumbing, Exterior Plumbing, Tree Cutting Shoreland).
- 03 Complete and submit application with required documents.
- 04 CEO reviews application under the Building Ordinance (amended Nov. 8, 2022 / Nov. 5, 2024).
- 05 Pay permit fee.
- 06 Permit issued; post at job site.
- 07 Schedule required inspections.
