When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Edgecomb
Building permits required for construction, structural alterations, and new structures per Land Use Ordinance 2024. Shoreland timber harvest permits, sign permits, and blasting permits also issued by CEO. CEO enforces Land Use Ordinance and issues written notices for violations. After-the-fact permits not automatically granted.

Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Contact CEO at 207-504-6198 to determine whether a building permit, land use permit, sign permit, or other permit is required.
- 02 Download applicable application form from edgecomb.org/code-enforcement/ (Building Permit Application, Sign Ordinance, Blasting Permit, Shoreland Tree Cutting, etc.).
- 03 Complete and submit application to CEO.
- 04 CEO reviews application; also advises Planning Board for Site Plan Review applications.
- 05 Pay applicable permit fee (fee schedule not publicly posted; contact CEO or town office).
- 06 Permit issued; post at job site.
- 07 Schedule inspections as required.
