Permit triggers and exempt work for Monkton
All building and land development requires a zoning/building permit unless exempt under Section 304 of the Unified Planning Document.

Application process
Typical processing: Up to 30 days per state law.
- 01 Contact Susan Gulrajani, ZA, at Zoning@monktonvt.com or 802-453-3800 to discuss the project.
- 02 Download and complete the fillable Zoning Permit Application. Email to Zoning@monktonvt.com; ZA will confirm the permit fee.
- 03 Pay permit fee through the Municipay portal on the town website.
- 04 The ZA acts within 30 days; permit deemed approved if no action by day 31.
- 05 Post permit for the 15-day appeal period before beginning work.
- 06 Once construction is underway and the building is staked: notify ZA. ZA will inspect within 3 business days for site-plan conformity.
- 07 Upon project completion: apply for Certificate of Occupancy. Provide wastewater compliance documentation. ZA must issue or deny within 10 business days.
