When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Lyme
All new structures and additions to existing buildings need an approved zoning permit prior to receiving a building permit. Subdivisions, site plan reviews, driveway access permits, and excavation permits also require Planning Board involvement.

- NH state licensing required for electricians and plumbers.
Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Contact Planning and Zoning Administrator to determine if a permit is needed and what type.
- 02 Review current Zoning Ordinance.
- 03 If building a new house or adding bedrooms beyond septic capacity: hire a septic system designer and gain State approval for a new septic design.
- 04 If project impacts wetlands: file the appropriate NH Wetlands Application.
- 05 If project is in the floodplain: Flood Plain Development Ordinance applies.
- 06 Download Zoning Permit Application and instructions from Planning and Zoning pages.
- 07 Pay the appropriate permit fee.
- 08 Submit completed application to Town Hall.
- 09 Zoning permit approved. Then obtain building permit as required.
- 10 Schedule required inspections.
