When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Georgia
New construction, additions, alterations, demolition, change of use, signs, site plans, conditional use applications, and subdivision.

- Owner-builder
- No state general contractor license required; licensed trades required.
- Contractor requirements
- General contractor -- no Vermont state license required. Electricians and plumbers must be DFS-licensed.

Application process
Typical processing: Not publicly specified; up to 30 days per Vermont statute.
- 01 Fill out the Zoning Application first and submit it to the Zoning Administrator prior to completing any additional forms.
- 02 Download forms from https://www.townofgeorgia.com/zoning-information-permits/page/zoning-forms or obtain from the Zoning Office.
- 03 The Zoning Administrator will determine which additional forms are required based on the project and request them.
- 04 Submit the completed Zoning Application to the Zoning Office. All fees are due at the time of application submission.
- 05 Zoning Administrator reviews the application for compliance with Georgia's zoning regulations.
- 06 For projects requiring DRB approval (conditional use permits, site plans, variances, subdivisions), applicant is scheduled for a hearing.
- 07 Permit issued upon approval.
- 08 For state-regulated structures (commercial, multifamily, rental), apply to DFS separately.
- 09 Apply for Certificate of Occupancy using the form at https://www.townofgeorgia.com/media/4251.
- 10 Schedule required inspections.
