Application process
Typical processing: Plan review 1 to 14 days; routine permits typically issued within a few business days of complete application.
- 01 Determine which permits are required (Building Permit, Electrical, Plumbing for applicable projects).
- 02 Access the iWorQ citizen portal or visit City Hall to obtain forms.
- 03 Complete the application: provide property owner information, contractor information, project type, building use/classification, estimated project cost, zoning information, and supporting documents.
- 04 Upload required plans and site plan via the portal, or deliver physical copies to City Hall. Commercial projects require one stamped engineered plan (by a Maine-licensed PE or Architect) plus a digital copy. Residential projects require a plan but not necessarily a stamped engineered plan.
- 05 Submit the application. Plan review may take 1 to 14 days.
- 06 Fees are calculated and must be paid; permit is issued upon approval and fee payment.
- 07 Post the permit on the job site before beginning work.
- 08 Contact Code Enforcement to schedule required inspections at each stage of construction.
- 09 Obtain Certificate of Use and Occupancy from the Code Enforcement Officer prior to occupying the structure.
