Permit triggers and exempt work for Mars Hill

Application process
Typical processing: CEO review: contact office. Planning Board review requires submission at least 2 weeks before the monthly meeting.
- 01 Contact CEO Bruce Hussey at (207) 554-9051 or the town office at (207) 425-3731 to discuss the project and confirm requirements.
- 02 Obtain the Land Use Permit Application from the Town Office at 37 Main Street or download from the town website.
- 03 Complete the application with: owner/contractor information, tax map/lot, zoning district, project description, square footage, construction cost, lot area, road/water frontage, flood elevation, stormwater/erosion control plan.
- 04 Prepare required attachments: site plan sketch (showing lot lines, setbacks, wells, septic, driveways, areas to be filled/graded) and building sketches/elevations.
- 05 Check with the CEO for any additional required approvals: Planning Board approval, Board of Appeals approval, flood hazard development permit, septic/plumbing permits, DEP permits.
- 06 Submit the completed application and all attachments to the Town Office. Pay applicable fees.
- 07 CEO reviews and may approve, approve with conditions, deny, or forward to the Planning Board. If Planning Board review is required, application must reach the Board through the CEO at least 2 weeks before the next regular meeting (fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 PM).
- 08 Permit is issued upon approval. Post permit on job site; work may not begin until permit is issued.
- 09 Schedule required inspections with the CEO.
