Permit triggers and exempt work for Tilton
Tilton adopts the New Hampshire State Building Code (2021 IBC/IRC). Building permits are required before construction, renovation, or any structural modification begins; specific trigger thresholds are administered by the local Building Department.

Application process

- 01 Contact the Land Use Office at 603-286-4521 (ext. 105 or 106) to determine whether a building permit is required for the proposed project.
- 02 Obtain the building permit application form from the Land Use Office in person or from the town website at http://www.tiltonnh.org/content/landuse.html.
- 03 Prepare required documents including a completed application, construction plans, and a site/plot plan showing property lines, setbacks, existing structures, utilities, septic, and well.
- 04 Submit the application in person or by mail to 257 Main Street during business hours.
- 05 The Code Enforcement Officer / Building Inspector reviews the application for compliance with Tilton Zoning Regulations (updated March 16, 2024) and applicable NH State Building Code.
- 06 Permit issued upon approval. Post permit on site.
- 07 Schedule required inspections by contacting the Land Use Office.
