Permit triggers and exempt work for Alton

Application process
Typical processing: 7-10 business days for complete applications

- 02 Gather required documents: completed application, construction drawings (two full-size sets at 22x34 inches or similar, and one 11x17 inch copy for new construction or major additions), a site/plot plan showing property boundaries, structures, setbacks, well, septic, and driveway.
- 03 Submit application online via Cloudpermit or in person at 1 Monument Square.
- 04 Building Department reviews the application; most complete applications are processed within 7-10 business days.
- 05 Fees are calculated during the review process and collected when the permit is picked up; payment by cash or check only.
- 06 Post the permit on-site and proceed with construction per approved plans.
- 07 Schedule all required inspections in sequence. A final inspection is mandatory for all permitted projects.
- 08 Upon passing all inspections and satisfying any Town or agency conditions, the Code Official issues a Certificate of Occupancy for new construction, major renovations, or additions.
