When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Ranson
General building permits (structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical work for residential and commercial). Fence permits. Shed permits (sheds of ANY size). Sign permits. - For residential projects $5,000+: WVCLB license required. For commercial projects $25,000+: WVCLB license required. For electrical work $1,000+: WVCLB license required.

- 02 Create account (first-time users)
- 03 Complete building permit application form
- 04 Upload required plans, drawings, and supporting documents
- 05 Pay permit fee online
- 06 Submit application
- 07 Alternatively: Email completed application and all attachments to permits@ransonwv.us or submit in person
- 08 Office reviews application and plans
- 09 Upon approval, permit issued
- 10 Schedule inspections through the online portal or by contacting the department
- 11 Inspections conducted during construction
- 12 Final inspection upon completion
