When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Hanksville
Per Hanksville Town Code Title 9: No construction or alteration of any building or structure larger than 300 square feet, or any part thereof, or the change of use of any land or building as regulated in Title 9, is allowed without an appropriate written permit issued by the Building Inspector. This 300 sq ft threshold is specific to Hanksville and differs from the 200 sq ft threshold common in many other Utah jurisdictions.
- Exempt Structures of 300 square feet or smaller do not require a building permit
- Exempt Ordinary maintenance and in-kind repairs
Note: This is Hanksville's stated threshold for the permit requirement -- the threshold is 300 sq ft rather than the 200 sq ft figure common elsewhere in Utah. Change of use of land or a building without construction may also require a permit if regulated under Title 9; confirm specifics with the town.
