When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Winslow Township
Permits required for new homes, additions, sunrooms, pools, hot tubs, re-roofing, siding, fence pool barriers, garage/basement conversions, HVAC, electrical service, water/sewer connections, pole barns, sheds, decks, and dumpsters.
- Exempt Ordinary repairs as defined by NJ UCC (painting, wallpapering, replacement glass, interior trim, flooring material under 25% of room area)
- Exempt Minor work per NJAC 5:23-2.17A (porches, stoops without roof support, interior alterations without structural changes); permit required but work may proceed before issuance
- Exempt Garden sheds 200 sq ft or less, 10 feet or less in height, without utilities
- Exempt Fences 6 feet or less in height (except pool barriers)
- Exempt Temporary structures under 120 sq ft for less than 180 days
Note: Winslow Township has both Pinelands and Non-Pinelands areas with different zoning regulations. Pinelands area properties require additional NJ Pinelands Commission approvals. Contact Planning and Zoning for zone-specific requirements.

- All contractors must provide NJ Division of Consumer Affairs registration proof with permit application.

Application process
Typical processing: 10-20 business days depending on project complexity and plan review requirements.
- 01 Contact Construction Office before beginning any construction work to determine if permit is required.
- 02 Obtain Zoning approval from Planning and Zoning Department for placement of any new structure.
- 03 Complete NJ DCA UCC forms (Form F100 plus applicable subcode sections F110, F120, F130, F140).
- 04 Prepare required construction plans and supporting documentation.
- 05 Contractor must provide NJ Division of Consumer Affairs registration documentation.
- 06 Submit application with plans to Construction Office at 125 South Route 73.
- 07 Office reviews application and issues permit upon approval and fee payment.

Five-Year Residential Abatement available for properties 15+ years old (up to $25,000 of improvement value exempt for 5 years). Abatement application must be filed within 30 days of completion.
