When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Bucksport
Building, plumbing, and sewer or septic system permits required for a new house. Structural alterations, additions, and demolition also require permits. Fences may be installed without a permit (except in Shoreland Zone). Fabric-covered structures for residential use generally do not require a building permit unless in the Shoreland Zone.

- 03 For a new house or major construction: obtain building permit, plumbing permit (internal), and either a sewer connection permit (if connecting to public sewer) or subsurface wastewater disposal permit (if installing a septic system). If a new driveway is installed on a public road, a road entrance permit is also required.
- 04 Submit completed application with site plan, construction drawings, and applicable documentation.
- 05 Pay permit fee upon application submission.
- 06 CEO reviews and typically issues permit within 1-2 business days for complete applications.
- 07 Post permit card at job site.
- 08 Schedule inspections as required during construction.
- 09 Obtain certificate of occupancy upon final inspection.
