When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Hughson
The city code requires a permit for construction, enlargement, alteration, repair, demolition, occupancy change, or regulated electrical, gas, mechanical, or plumbing work.

Note: Exemption from permit does not waive code or other legal compliance, including zoning, fire, utilities, health, or enforcement requirements. Exempt projects should still be confirmed as context-specific.

- Permit validity
- Permit application may expire after 12 months unless extended in writing, with up to a 180-day extension and a possible second 180-day extension under specific conditions. An issued permit becomes invalid if work is not begun within 180 days of issuance or if work is suspended or abandoned for 180 days after commencement.

- Owner-builder verification form is included in the packet and is completed by owner applicants.
