When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Pohatcong Township
Building permit required for all construction within Pohatcong Township except for work specifically exempted by N.J.A.C. 5:23-2.14. Zoning permit required for ALL new construction, alteration, change in use, and accessory structures.

- 01 Contact Township Zoning Officer at 908-454-6121 ext. 307 or zoning@pohatcongtwp.org to apply for zoning permit (required for ALL new construction, alteration, change in use, and accessory structures).
- 02 Obtain zoning clearance from Township — this is REQUIRED before building permit application.
- 03 After receiving zoning clearance, contact State Office of Local Code Enforcement at 171 Route 173, Suite 101, Asbury, NJ 08802 (908-713-0722).
- 04 Submit UCC construction permit application with all applicable subcode sections to State Office.
- 05 Pay construction permit fees to State Office.
- 06 State Office conducts plan review: Up to 20 business days for complete applications.
- 07 Schedule and complete required inspections with State Office.
- 08 Final Certificate of Occupancy issued after all applicable subcode inspections passed.
