When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Palmetto
Major permits are issued for building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work. A permit is also required for fences and other minor construction projects such as storage sheds.
Note: A city-specific public exemption handout is not readily available. Because Palmetto expressly requires permits for fences, storage sheds, and other minor projects, applicants should confirm any claimed exemption directly with the Building Department before starting work.

Palmetto publishes a valuation-based building permit fee schedule. Examples include $68 for jobs from $0 to $999, $100 for the first $1,000 plus $14 for each additional thousand up to $500,000, subcontractor permits at $75, state surcharge fees added to each permit, permit extensions at $100 with a written explanation, and reinspection fees beginning at $68.
