All submitted permit applications, plans, and data must reflect the current code edition. The city uses Citizenserve for permit and inspection administration.

Note: A city-specific general exemption handout is not readily available. Because Anna Maria is a small coastal city with active floodplain and stormwater administration, applicants should confirm any claimed exemption with the Building Department before beginning work.

Owner-builder

Anna Maria's published owner-builder disclosure packet closely tracks Florida Statute 489.103(7). Owners may build or improve a one-family or two-family residence or certain commercial work up to $75,000 for the owner's own use, may not build or improve for sale or lease within one year after completion, and must provide direct onsite supervision.

Contractor requirements

Licensed contractors are generally required unless a statutory exemption applies.
