Application Process

  1. Use the 'Do I need a Zoning Permit?' guide on the Chelsea website: https://www.chelseavt.org/do-i-need-a-zoning-permit/
  2. If a permit is required, download the Zoning Permit Application from: https://www.chelseavt.org/zoning-applications-and-bylaws/
  3. Complete the application. A site plan or sketch is typically required.
  4. If DRB review is also required (for waivers, variances, appeals, conditional uses, or change of use), download and complete the DRB Application from the same page.
  5. Submit the application with the applicable fee to the Zoning Administrator (Tim McCormick) in person on Fridays 8 AM - 4 PM at the Chelsea Town Hall, or email za@chelseavt.us to arrange submission.
  6. The Zoning Administrator reviews for conformance with the Chelsea Zoning Bylaw. DRB applications are scheduled for public hearing.
  7. Upon approval, permit is issued. Post on property before work begins.
  8. Upon completion, contact Zoning Administrator for final sign-off or Certificate of Compliance if required.

  • Replacement of a building damaged by fire or other disaster, provided the new structure is not greater in any dimension, remains within the original footprint, and reconstruction begins within two years of the date of damage
