When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Elmore
New construction, additions, alterations, changes of use, accessory structures, and subdivisions require a zoning permit within any of Elmore's seven zoning districts.

- 02 Download the Zoning Permit Application (2024) and Fee Worksheet (2025) from https://elmorevt.org/documents/forms/.
- 03 Prepare required documents including the application, site plan, and any other project documentation.
- 04 Calculate the applicable fee using the Fee Worksheet.
- 05 Submit the completed application and fee to the Elmore Town Office.
- 06 The Zoning Administrator will review and contact the applicant. Administrative permits are processed within 30 days; DRB review may be required for conditional uses, variances, or subdivisions.
- 07 After permit issuance and any applicable appeal period, post permit on site and begin work.
- 08 For commercial or multi-family projects, also obtain state DFS permit.
