When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Tropic
All building projects within Tropic Town limits require Planning Commission and Town Council approval before Garfield County will issue a permit.

- 01 Obtain the Building Permit Packet from the Tropic Town Office ($50.00 fee) or download it from https://townoftropicut.gov/planning-zoning/.
- 02 Contact Marie Niemann at the Tropic Town Office (435-679-8713) with any questions about your project prior to submitting.
- 03 Submit the completed application to the Tropic Town Office. The Town Planning Commission and Town Council will review and approve the project.
- 04 Upon receiving written notice of Town Council project approval, submit this approval letter along with the building permit application to the Garfield County Building Inspector.
- 05 Provide evidence of approved culinary water supply and approved waste disposal method (required for permit issuance).
- 06 Garfield County Building Inspector issues the permit.
- 07 Pay applicable fees to the county.
- 08 Post permit card on site; keep approved plans on site throughout construction.
- 09 Schedule inspections with the county building inspector no less than two working days in advance.
