When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Pilot Point (Cooke County portion only)
A building permit is required for any alteration or construction work. The city also publishes project-specific pages for accessory buildings, fences, retaining walls, temporary storage units, natural gas testing, right-of-way work, generator permits, and more.
- Exempt Accessory structures under 200 square feet are exempt from permit fees, but not from permitting
- Exempt Fence repairs not involving posts or not exceeding 50 percent of any one run may be completed without a permit if materials match the existing fence
Note: If cumulative repairs over 12 months exceed 50 percent of a run or involve post installation, a permit is required. No broader single citywide exempt-work list was found in the reviewed public materials.
