When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Cecil Township
The Building and Zoning office states it should be the first stop for new construction and additions or improvements to existing residential or commercial structures.
Note: Permit checklist notes accessory structures under 1,000 square feet are exempt from the construction drawing submittal requirement, not from permit review itself. Confirm ordinary-repair exemptions directly with the Township before assuming no permit is needed.
- Plot or site plan
- Two complete sets of construction drawings
- Workers compensation insurance or waiver
- Sewage / septic approval letter
- Proposed water supply information
- Highway occupancy permit for state roads
- ADA details for commercial buildings
- Building code
- Cecil Township adopted the 2009 IBC and IRC and the 2012 IPMC for property maintenance.
- Permit validity
- Permit is void if work is not started within 3 months of issuance; once work is initiated under a valid permit, the permit remains valid for 1 year as long as construction is diligently pursued.
- Owner-builder
- The permit instructions state the property owner is the applicant; a sealed survey may be waived for accessory structures and small additions, but the Township may require a waiver.
- Contractor requirements
- Workers compensation proof is required for anyone doing work on the property using employees; no separate Township contractor license requirement was posted on the public pages.
