When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Mt. Vernon
A building permit is required for all new construction and all structural alterations within the City of Mt. Vernon. Oregon law requires permits for all new residential structures.
Non-habitable accessory structures: detached storage sheds, garages, or similar structures; one-story only; less than 200 square feet; less than 15 feet floor to average roof height.
Patio, porch & deck covers: not more than 200 square feet; not more than 12 feet average roof height; not closer than 3 feet to property line.
Decks: deck floor or platform not more than 30 inches above adjacent grade at any point; must meet setback and construction standards.
