When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Jackson Township
Jackson Township requires zoning permits for new construction or alteration of buildings and structures, including commercial buildings, dwellings, garages, sheds, decks, balconies, gazebos, pergolas, arbors, outdoor fireplaces, porches, fences, and swimming pools. A permitted use certificate is required for all businesses before opening.
- Exempt Accessory buildings of 32 square feet or less do not require a zoning permit
Note: Separate Stark County building permit thresholds still need to be checked even if township zoning does not require a permit.
- Completed zoning application
- Site plan
- All required attachments uploaded with the permit application
- Permits cannot be processed without the proper documents
- Building code
- Jackson Township relies on Stark County Building Inspection for building-code enforcement. Stark County applies the 2019 Residential Code of Ohio, 2024 Ohio Building Code, and related state code set.
- Contractor requirements
- Jackson Township's reviewed zoning pages do not post a township contractor registration program. Separate Stark County building permit and state trade-license rules still apply.
