When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Medina

Application process
Typical processing: Same-day and over-the-counter permitting available for some work. Minimum 2 weeks for plan review on some permit types such as fire suppression. Processing time varies by permit type.
- 01 Determine the permit type from the city's Applications, Permits, Notices page and download the matching form (Building Permit, Electrical Permit, HVAC Permit, Plumbing Permit, Deck Permit, or Accessory Structure Permit).
- 02 Prepare the application and supporting plans. The city posts separate residential and commercial submittal requirement documents and requires contractors working in the city to be registered.
- 03 Submit the application and plans to the Building Department at 132 North Elmwood Avenue. Multiple paper plan sets may be required depending on permit type.
- 04 Pay plan review and permit fees under the city fee schedule.
- 05 After approval, receive the permit, post it on site, and schedule required inspections with the Building Department.
- 06 Obtain final approval and, where applicable, a certificate of occupancy.
