When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Nichols
Building permits are required for construction, enlargement, alteration, improvement, removal, relocation, demolition, and installation of a solid-fuel appliance, chimney, or flue that must comply with the Uniform Code or Energy Code.
- Exempt Detached structures up to 144 square feet
- Exempt Playground equipment
- Exempt Above-ground pools under 24 inches deep
- Exempt Non-pool fences
- Exempt Painting and finish work
- Exempt Listed portable equipment
- Exempt Limited repairs that do not affect structure, egress, building systems, or fire protection
Note: Exempt from building permit does not mean exempt from zoning and planning requirements. Confirm edge cases with the Code Enforcement office before proceeding.
