When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Oxford
Building permits are required for any work that must conform to the NYS Uniform Building Code.
- Exempt Necessary repairs not affecting structural features
- Exempt Alterations that do not affect structural features, fire-safety features, electrical systems, or solid-fuel appliances and that cost less than $20,000
Note: Applicants should confirm any claimed exemption with the village or county before proceeding, because local zoning or other approvals may still apply.

- Drawings and plot plan
- Workers' compensation and disability forms or exemption forms
- Local compliance certification signed by town supervisor, village mayor, or authorized representative

Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Contact the village zoning officer for local zoning review.
- 02 Use the county building permit form published on the village site.
- 03 Obtain village certification that the project complies with local regulations.
- 04 Submit the completed application to Chenango County Code Enforcement with drawings, plot plan, and insurance or exemption forms.
