When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Monroe Township
A building permit is required for most construction within Monroe Township.

- Owner-builders may prepare own plans for single-family owner-occupied residential projects.
- Contractor requirements
- Contractors must hold valid NJ license and home improvement contractor registration.
Application process
Typical processing: 10-15 working days for residential permits; 30 days for commercial permits.
- 01 Complete Construction Permit Application (UCC F100).
- 02 Obtain Monroe Township Zoning Permit.
- 03 Submit Pinelands Certificate of Filing if applicable.
- 04 Submit Planning Board approval if applicable.
- 05 Obtain Well and Septic Approval from Gloucester County Department of Health.
- 06 Submit Water and Sewer Connection Permits from Monroe Township and Gloucester County Utilities Authority.
- 07 Obtain Gloucester County Soil Conservation District Permit or Exemption.
- 08 Submit two (2) sets of construction plans.
- 09 Provide NJ Builders License or Home Improvement Contractor Registration.
