When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Franklin Township
Any building or unattached improvement of 100 sq ft or more requires a permit.

- Owner-builder
- Owner-builders may prepare own plans for single-family owner-occupied residential projects.
- Contractor requirements
- Contractors must hold valid NJ license and home improvement contractor registration.
Application process
Typical processing: 10-15 working days for residential permits; 30 days for commercial permits.
- 01 Complete Construction Permit Application.
- 02 Submit proof of ownership or authorized agent documentation.
- 03 Complete Uniform Zoning/Construction Permit Application.
- 04 Submit required building plans: residential (2 sets with material lists), non-residential (2 sets signed and sealed).
- 05 Submit plot plan showing structures, well, septic, drainage, property lines.
- 06 Provide Workers' Compensation Certificate.
- 07 Submit Erosion and Sedimentation Plan if applicable.
- 08 Obtain Sewage Permit from Gloucester County Board of Health (new homes).
- 09 Obtain Well Permit (new homes).
- 10 Submit Electrical/Plumbing permits if required.
- 11 Obtain Driveway Permit for new driveways.
- 12 Pay fees.
