When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for New Whiteland
New Whiteland's residential packet covers new homes, duplexes, additions, remodels and basement finishes, electrical-only work, accessory structures, fences, and swimming pools. Commercial and multi-family packets cover new buildings, additions, remodels, electrical-only work, signs, trailers, wireless and solar or wind systems, and fire-repair work.

Application process

- 01 Download the correct New Whiteland permit packet for single or two-family, commercial or industrial, or multi-family work.
- 02 Assemble the required submittal items for the project type such as site plan, erosion control plan, energy certificate, construction plans, and state approvals when required.
- 03 Submit by email to permits@newwhiteland.in.gov, through the state eGov permit application, or hand deliver to 540 Tracy Road, Suite A during posted office hours.
- 04 Pay the $15 processing fee at the time of application.
- 05 Wait for local review; New Whiteland's packets note the permit fee and inspection fees are paid when the permit is issued.
- 06 Obtain the issued permit and schedule the required inspections through the permit administrator or planning office.
- 07 Pay any reinspection or added inspection fees before final inspection or Certificate of Occupancy when required.
