When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Grandview
County: Any new construction, structural changes, or major system installations, including new homes, additions, accessory structures, roofing, siding, windows, doors, interior remodels, electrical, plumbing, mechanical (HVAC), demolition, fences, swimming pools, and solar/wind energy systems. Village: Fences require a permit from the Village.
Note: For general building projects, consult Sangamon County (implicitly very few exemptions for structural/system work). For Village-specific permits, contact the Village office.

Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 For general building permits, obtain applications from the Sangamon County Building & Zoning website.
- 02 Complete fillable PDF application and gather required documents (site plan showing property lines, setbacks, and proposed work). Commercial projects may require architectural drawings.
- 03 Submit County application via email to zoning@sangamonil.gov.
- 04 County reviews plans for compliance with building codes.
- 05 Once reviewed, the County emails a payment link.
- 06 Payment is made (credit/debit cards and e-checks via IL E-pay accepted).
- 07 Permit is issued by Sangamon County.
