When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Sangamon County
New construction, additions, structural alterations (roofing, siding, windows), accessory structures (sheds, pools, decks), and mechanical/plumbing/electrical systems.
- Exempt Minor cosmetic repairs (painting, carpeting)
- Exempt Fences under 6 feet in height (check zoning setbacks)

- Plumbers must be state-licensed (IDFPR). Roofers must be state-licensed. General contractors must be registered with the county.
