When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Genesee
A building permit is required for construction within the City of Genesee. Verify requirements with the City Clerk.

- Permit validity
- Permit becomes invalid if work is not commenced within 180 days of issuance. Permit becomes void if work is suspended or abandoned for 180 consecutive days.
- Owner-builder
- Owner-builders must register with the Idaho Contractors Board if the project value exceeds $2,000.
- Contractor requirements
- All contractors performing construction work valued at $2,000 or more must register with the Idaho Contractors Board. Registration requires proof of liability insurance ($300,000 minimum). Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC contractors must hold valid state licenses issued by the Idaho Division of Occupational & Professional Licenses (DOPL).
