When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Woolsey
Woolsey requires town plan review for residential and commercial building work. The town fee schedule states that after town approval, permits are issued by Fayette County Building Permits and Inspections.
Note: Woolsey's residential form states that an accessory building less than 288 square feet does not require a building permit from Fayette County. Woolsey does not publish a separate town exemption list beyond that form note. For the county permit stage, Fayette County residential permit exemptions still control county-issued permits.
- Proof of ownership or owner consent
- Owner information
- Contractor contact information and Georgia builders license
- Site plan with zoning and setbacks
- Complete scaled plans
- Lot and site address information
- Non-refundable fee (two copies required for town review; Fayette County needs digital uploads in SAGES)
- Building code
- Woolsey's form states applicants must comply with Town of Woolsey ordinances plus Fayette County and state laws relating to building construction. The actual building code review and inspections are handled by Fayette County under Georgia state minimum construction codes.
- Permit validity
- Woolsey does not publish a separate town validity rule on the forms reviewed here. After Woolsey approval, the county-issued permit follows Fayette County validity rules.
- Owner-builder
- The Woolsey form requires the applicant to certify legal authority to apply and authorize entry for inspections. If the owner applies for the county permit, Fayette County owner-builder rules apply at the county stage.
- Contractor requirements
- Woolsey requires a copy of the State of Georgia builders license with the application. The actual county permit also requires a properly licensed contractor unless owner-builder rules apply.
