When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Peachtree City
The city requires permits for work regulated by the Georgia State Minimum Standard Codes for Construction.
Note: The city does not publish a stand-alone exemption list on its permit pages reviewed here. The current permit page says permits are required for work regulated by the Georgia State Minimum Standard Codes. For borderline projects, the city directs applicants to the Building Department before starting work.

- Permit validity
- Peachtree City permit placards state permits become null and void if work is not commenced within 6 months or is suspended or abandoned for 6 months. The fee schedule also allows 3-month extensions.
- Owner-builder
- The city allows work done by owner and city-issued permits list whether work is done by owner. Homeowners can request permits on their own property through the portal.
- Contractor requirements
- Residential and general contractors must be licensed in Georgia. The permit page and trade forms also require current state licenses and current local business license or occupational tax records for trade permits.

Application process
Typical processing: Initial application document review within 24 hours; staff review within 3 business days after fees are paid. Residential permits generally take 3 to 5 business days and commercial permits 10 to 14 business days.
- 01 Gather the required permit application, plans, site plan, and any utility approvals. New homes, commercial buildings, and commercial alterations also need water and sewer approval letters.
- 02 Register in the BSA portal if needed. Contractors must create an account and then call the Building Department or Planning Department so staff can convert the account to contractor status.
- 03 Apply through the online permitting portal or work from the Building Department main desk using the same BSA workflow. Permit application files are accepted through the online portal and should not be emailed.
- 04 Building Department staff reviews the application. Document review begins within 24 hours of successful submission, and if staff review is required the review is completed within 3 business days after all fees are paid.
- 05 Pay the assessed fees. Payment can be made at the office or by mailing a check to 153 Willowbend Road.
- 06 Print and post the approved permit, then request inspections online before each required inspection stage.
