When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Ignacio
A permit is required for erection, construction, excavation, alteration, and related work within the town.
Note: The reviewed code excerpts did not produce a concise exempt-work list.
- Permit application forms furnished by the town
- Plans sufficient to satisfy the Building Official

- The town code adopts the 2003 editions of the International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Mechanical Code, International Plumbing Code, International Fuel Gas Code, and International Energy Code, with amendments and deletions.
- Permit validity
- Permit expires if work is not started within 180 days, or is suspended or abandoned for 180 days, unless extended once in writing.
Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Prepare an application on the forms furnished by the Town.
- 02 Submit the application to the Building Official.
- 03 The Building Official approves and signs the permit when minimum requirements are met.
- 04 The town retains one set of approved plans for at least 90 days after completion.
- 05 If work is not started within 180 days, or is abandoned/suspended for 180 days, the permit expires unless extended once in writing.
