Permit triggers and exempt work for Bayfield

- All contractors need a current Town of Bayfield business license. Plumbing and electrical contractors must be licensed and registered with the State of Colorado.
Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Complete the building permit application packet and pay the deposit per the adopted fee schedule.
- 02 Submit digital PDFs for plans; the town prefers PDFs and requires them for new construction and larger additions/remodels.
- 03 Provide an ILC or survey for new construction or additions.
- 04 Include scaled building plans, site plan, signed drainage and plumbing forms, and the residential energy certificate where applicable.
- 05 Town review occurs, then the permit is issued.
- 06 After work is completed, schedule final inspections with the building inspector, plumbing inspector, Public Works, and state electrical inspector.
- 07 After all outstanding fees are paid, the town issues the Certificate of Occupancy.

- Requests require 48 hours notice. For meter work, call Town Hall by noon two business days before the desired installation date.
Typical sequence: Typical sequence includes footings/piers, stem walls, monolithic pours, footings in slabs, under slab plumbing, rough-in plumbing, plumbing tests, rough-in mechanical, rough-in framing, shear wall nailing, gas line test, then final inspections by building, state electrical, plumbing, and Public Works.
Public Works does a final inspection before CO; all fees and billings must be paid.
