When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Williams
Homeowners, contractors, or developers who build or improve any structure used or intended for supporting or sheltering any use or occupancy must obtain a building permit. The city applies this to all construction work, from a fence or room addition to a major development.
Note: The city has adopted the 2024 I-Codes, which specify exemptions. Consult the current city code or contact the Building Department for the specific list of exempt work.

- Work must start within 180 days of permit issuance and continue without a gap of more than 180 days. Building permits are valid for one year; extensions may be requested in writing.

- 06 Respond to any correction comments and resubmit if required
- 07 Receive permit approval and commence work
