When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Campbell County
A building permit is required for new construction and for structures or uses of land in zoned parcels. A Zoning Certificate is required on all zoned parcels to verify compatibility with the zoning classification.
Note: The county's Chapter 4 Rules Regulating Construction incorporates IRC exemption provisions. Typical Wyoming IRC-based exemptions may include: one-story detached accessory structures under 200 sq ft; fences not over 7 ft; retaining walls not over 4 ft; painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, countertops, and similar finish work; window awnings; prefabricated swimming pools under 24 inches deep. Contact Building Division at (307) 682-1970 to confirm current exempt work list.
