A building permit is required for all new structures and buildings, enlargements and alterations to existing structures, demolition, structures with utilities (electric, plumbing, mechanical), and all accessory structures.

Contractor requirements

Contractors must hold valid West Virginia Contractor Licensing Board license for work valued at $2,500 or more (labor + materials). Electrical contractors require licensing for work exceeding $1,000.
