Unincorporated Wyoming County

A building permit is required for all new structures, enlargements or alterations to existing buildings, demolition of structures, garages and accessory structures, and any structure with electric, plumbing, or permanent foundation. Properties in floodplain areas require additional Floodplain Development Permit.

• Exempt Agricultural buildings may be exempt from permitting under certain conditions. Contact county office for eligibility.

Building code

West Virginia State Building Code (2015 International Residential Code and International Building Code), West Virginia Residential Code (2018), and State Fire Code as enforced by West Virginia State Fire Marshal.

Contractor requirements

Contractors performing work valued at $2,500 or more (labor + materials) must be licensed through West Virginia Contractor Licensing Board. Electrical contractors require licensing for work exceeding $1,000.
