When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Camas
A building permit is required for all construction work within the City of Camas.
- Exempt One-story detached accessory buildings under 200 sq ft (no plumbing/electrical)
Note: Certain agricultural buildings and temporary structures (specific conditions apply) may be exempt. Contact Building Division to verify specific exemptions.

- Engineering calculations (stamped by WA licensed engineer)
- WA State Energy Code Compliance Form

- 2021 International Building Code (IBC) with Washington Amendments, 2021 International Residential Code (IRC) with Washington Amendments, 2021 International Mechanical Code (IMC) with Washington Amendments, 2021 International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) with Washington Amendments, 2021 Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) with Washington Amendments, 2021 Washington State Energy Code. Effective March 15, 2024.

- Separate permits required: Building Permit (City of Camas), Plumbing Permit (City of Camas), Mechanical Permit (City of Camas), Electrical Permit (WA State L&I), Fire Sprinkler Permit (City of Camas), Fire Alarm Permit (City of Camas).
