When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Eldorado
A building permit is required for construction, alteration, or demolition of new or remodeled structures, including additions, carports, garages, storage structures, decks, and shops.
- Building permit application
- Property survey with proposed construction drawn and measured on a copy
- Sketch of existing and proposed construction for residential and commercial buildings
- Set of plans showing water, gas, and sewer services for public buildings only
- Contractor name, address, contact person, and phone number
- Permit validity
- 6-month limitation; renewal needed upon expiration.
- Owner-builder
- Owner must sign the permit application.
Application process
Application → plan check → issuance → inspection → final
- 01 Confirm with City Hall whether the proposed work requires permit approval by calling (325) 853-2691.
- 02 Download the building permit application from the city website.
- 03 Obtain a survey for the property; a prior survey may be available at the county courthouse.
- 04 Mark the full extent of the proposed new or remodeled structure on a photocopy of the survey with all measurements.
- 05 Bring the application, marked survey, and $25 application fee to City Hall.
- 06 If needed, the Code Enforcement Officer and/or City Administrator will arrange a site visit to verify setback compliance.
- 07 For residential and commercial buildings, attach a sketch of the existing and proposed construction. For public buildings, attach a set of plans showing water, gas, and sewer services.
- 08 Wait for city approval before starting work. Failure to receive approval may result in utility shutoff and/or a fine issued by City Council.
