When a permit is required
Permit triggers and exempt work for Eastland
It is unlawful to construct, modify, or install any water or sewerage system within the city, or to construct or modify any new or existing structure, unless a building permit has been issued. All types of residential construction work require building permits for the listed categories on the Forms and Permits page.

- 01 Confirm the property is inside Eastland city limits and check whether zoning, historic-preservation, or sign rules also apply.
- 02 Review the city's Forms and Permits page. Eastland states the purpose of permitting is public safety and notes the city began requiring permits under its Buildings and Building Regulations ordinance in 1974.
- 03 Determine whether the project falls within the city's listed permit-triggering work: fences, accessory buildings, storage sheds, carports, patio covers, pergolas, residential new construction, room additions, remodels, roof replacement, driveways and other concrete work, decks, irrigation systems, mobile home installation or relocation, signage, and commercial new buildings, finish-outs, remodels, additions, and roof replacements.
- 04 Download and complete the applicable fillable permit form from the city site.
- 05 Submit the completed application and any required plans or supporting materials to city staff. Applicants should use the project-specific form and confirm submittal requirements with the Building Official.
- 06 Wait for review by the Building Official or permit department staff. Eastland's code provisions create a city permit department and make it unlawful to construct or modify covered structures or water-sewer systems without a permit.
- 07 Do not begin work until permit approval is issued.
- 08 Arrange inspections with the Building Official as directed. The city states the Building Official reviews and inspects commercial and residential building requests.
